Talespinner delivers three heroes that embody very different combat styles, a unique way to choose encounters, as well as a solid set of combat mechanics.

Talespinner is a unique entry in the roguelike deck-building space. The presentation, with its folklore inspiration, gives it character, and the combat system is deep enough to warrant experimentation over multiple runs.

Talespinner earns its place as a genuinely solid entry in the genre. It's a game with a lot going for it, held back just enough by its own structure to keep it from fully standing out. Still, on the runs where everything comes together, Talespinner delivers some of the more memorable turns this genre has to offer, and that's not something you can say about every deckbuilder on the shelf.

While I was hoping that the game would do more to leverage actual narrative of some kind to add interest, its different heroes and the wildly different rules of their decks and cards helps make it interesting

Talespinner is a game with an interesting concept with a mixed execution. While the combat and deck building elements of the game shine through and will keep nearly any gamer engaged, the rogue-like elements fall short due to the game's lack of variety outside of the deck building. Despite its flaws, the overall experience is still enjoyable and is sure to satisfy gamers looking for a short yet fun rogue-like in this style.
