Facing an enemy completely immune to conventional weapons, modern society collapses as humanity is driven to the point of extinction. One last hope remains. Following the Fenrir Organization’s development of “God Arcs”, Oracle Cell based living weapons, their wielders are organized into an elite force of “God Eaters”. Perhaps it took a move to the home consoles and a years-delayed retouch, but God Eater Resurrection shines as a less demanding, flashier alternative to the likes of Monster Hunter. It'll never ask for the same depth of dedication, but it doesn't try to, and in (not) doing so, manages to prove that being the "diet" version of something isn't always a bad thing.

While it can't escape looking like a 5-year old game, this enhanced remake is one hell of a package at a low price.

As a standalone game, God Eater Resurrection is a decent time.

The God Eater franchise is massive in Japan and it's easy to see why. Those looking for a more dynamic and story-driven hunting game may very well find exactly what they are looking for right here with Bandai Namco's God Eater: Resurrection. The flaws associated with its aged original release are more than made up for by the ground-up overhaul. This is without a doubt a fantastic and fun hunting series that hopefully spawns a lot more releases further into the future.

While God Eater Resurrection can’t mask its PSP roots, it is an enjoyable title worth looking into if you are a newcomer or fan of the series alike and just can’t wait for the long awaited third instalment. If you are a looking for a Monster Hunter-esque game on the PS4, God Eater Resurrection might be just the thing you were waiting for.

Released in Japan last October, God Eater Resurrection has given back to the original game the popularity it deserved. To this day is undoubtedly the best alternative to Monster Hunter.

God Eater Resurrection updates the series original with new weapons and combat that brings it more up to speed with today’s times. The stylized visuals will be a hit for folks who love Japanese anime and the more accessible gameplay makes it friendly for newcomers to the genre. While some will say that it has more style than Monster Hunter, however, this enhancement to what is essentially a five-year old game doesn’t quite have the same substance as newer entries in Capcom’s more popular hunting series. That being said, it’s still a solid game.

God Eater Resurrection is both a useful re-entry point for existing fans and the ideal opportunity for new players to get into the series.

If there was one word that could accurately define God Eater Resurrection, it would be “uneven”. The concept and the combat both give it a unique identity over Monster Hunter, and could lend itself to great things that help make it stand out. But the amateurish story direction and outdated control schemes hinder its chances to emerge from the shadow of Capcom’s multimillion dollar franchise.
