Hitting the track and chaining tricks together in Denshattack is a joy, and a constant stream of new ideas means its excellent anime-inspired campaign never runs out of steam.

Irreverent, unpredictable, funny, and unputdownable, Denshattack! is anti-capitalist, pop-punk optimism distilled.

Denshattack is an inconsistent spectacle that fails to make good use of its chosen themes.

Denshattack is weird as hell, and it leans into its strange premise with earned confidence, constantly building and layering on its ideas throughout.

Denshattack is a blast. While it may present a steep learning curve at the beginning, its unique, arcadey gameplay rewards skill and quick thinking in a way that feels old school and fresh at the same time. From its silly, train-tricking premise through its challenging, fast-paced action and colourful presentation, it's a cohesive game that delivers big fun at every turn in the track.

Denshattack! is an effective homage to Sega's Dreamcast era without feeling too derivative. Using a train, of all things, to pull off insane tricks to increase your score sounds utterly ridiculous on paper, but it all works very well. It's the kind of gameplay that invites you to play it again and again to perfect your runs and earn those lofty gold medals. It's just a shame that the core hook is surrounded by needless fluff that bloats the overall experience. Yes, you can skip most of it, but Denshattack! would have shone even brighter had the devs leaned further into its arcade-style inspirations. Still, it's well worth a punt for its gameplay alone, and there's a strong foundation here to spawn an even better sequel in the future.

Denshattack! is a trick-based game from the Tony Hawk school of design, except literally on rails.

Denshattack feels like a lost gem from a forgotten, and underappreciated era. It is the type of game I needed right now.
